THE GREAT STEED
DARE TO MOUNT
Open the gate wide
The Great Steed approaches
Silent are His hoofs upon the ground
He comes, but unannounced
Is this the way of the Victor?
Surely, He would know
For He has conquered many a land
And the people have spoken of His prowess
But this day and for this time
He stands still, waiting . . .
Waiting for what?
Waiting for the rider?
And who are we in this great scheme of things?
Who do we represent in this life
And what power do we have to change our position,
To change our future
To alter even our past?
We’ve been invited to ride
A great stallion, a steed
The Victor
And we hold off
Because we want to be in control
For once we mount,
the horse has full Power to take us
where He will
We wait for another day
When we’re not busy
For surely the journey could take
A long time
It would take as long as the Steed decides
And we’re not sure
if we have that much time to spare
We stop in place
Not mounting, but thinking about it
Considering all the possibilities of what could happen
Once we mounted
Thinking about what we would miss out on
While riding the Steed
Thinking about how we would look
While riding the Steed
Thinking about what weight would encumber us
While riding the Steed
Thinking and thinking and thinking . . .
And the Steed leaves our side
He has better things to do than wait
For our shallow conclusion
No, He’s looking for a rider
Who approaches Him
With eyes wide open and ablaze with purpose
He looks for the one who mounts the Steed
Never looking back
Never considering what he gave up
Never wondering how he looks to others
Never thinking about how long the journey might be
Never focusing on what was lost, put away
To take the journey
He’s looking . . .
Searching for the ones willing to ride
What will He find as He comes near you?
Is your heart willing?
Are you afraid of His approach?
I assure you, He is a Gentlemen
No one mounts without their permission
No one is forced to go His Way
No one is coerced into believing
That the ride will be anything different than it is
No one is charmed into a false adventure
Consider it all gain, to lose yourself
To gain what you could never attain on your own
To ride the great clouds upon a Steed
Whose Name is Faithful and True
To the Ride . . .
