In Love With God

Are you in love with God?  Do you not want to sleep for want of more time with Him?  Can you not steal your gaze away from His when you look upon His Face?  Do you think about Him constantly, struggle to turn your mind to other things, find yourself unable to quit wondering what He’s thinking, planning or doing?  Does everything remind you of Him—something He said, something He did, something He promised, something He’s been teaching you?  Do you look for new ways to bring Him joy—a gift, a new way of expressing love in word, a kind gesture, anything to thrill His Heart with your enthrallment with Him?  Does this describe you?

Too many of us, too often, get caught up in love for other things—people, dreams, aspirations, the world and all the empty treasures it holds.  We want a spouse, a house, a car, to travel here or there, experience this or that, a more fulfilling set of friends, a better paying job, and everything in between.  We want so much that is in this world.  We dream of it, ache for it, pray for it, and labor for it.  Face it: we love the world.  Yet we cannot love both.  Unfaithfully, yes; truly, no.

What would it look like if you were truly in love with God?  All else would disappear when He speaks.  A room full of people, with all its noise and distraction and clamor for your attention, would fade when you catch sight of His Face.  Your heart would pound at the thought of spending time with Him.  You would beg for one more minute with Him.  You would dream of Him and nothing else would matter.  You would only care that you could be with Him, no matter the circumstance or surroundings.  Nothing would be too great a gift.  And oh, how you would wish you could surprise Him!

Have we forgotten that God is a Person—who Loves and longs to be loved, who seeks and aches to be sought, who speaks and wants you to listen, who knows the secrets of your soul and searches the deepest chambers of your heart and intensely desires to be known?  Have we forgotten this?  Or do we only live like we have?

“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.”
